-Rumi
Staring at the word HEART, one day, I realized the truth of Rumi’s verse. The word HEART reveals it all. HEAR, ART, in your HEART. This is poetry to me. The Art in my Heart flows as I put pen to paper. The words nourish my soul and heal me in profound ways. It is this healing nature of words, the wisdom in their essence, that I wish to share with you. A truth life has shared with me, so far, is that our greatest wounds hold our greatest gold, our gifts our food for the soul. Poetry for me is this food for the soul, and it is this inspiration the churning of wounds to gold, that gave birth to my first poetry collection of 108 poems of unearthing, unravelling, and re-birthing titled, My Womb.
Traditionally a woman has been seen to give birth to humans. But look around you. Look at all those incredibly talented and beautiful women, who even though not mothers in the biological sense, have, in every sense of the word have nurtured and nourished their dreams, regenerated and reinvented themselves, recreated and redefined themselves and re- birthed themselves.
The poetry shares the journey of one such heroine through her trials of childhood and exploring spirituality and to coming of her own being. My purpose with this collection is to help you ignite your own healing flame to shed light on your own healing grace and to churn your wounds to gold. While my first poetry book may appear to be dedicated to women, it is a tribute to the boundless divine feminine present in us all, man, woman or child. So I invite you to explore this collection with an open mind and an open heart.
Mystics across diverse traditions worldwide have recognized that numbers extend beyond mere scientific insight; they serve as a cryptic language for awakening, unlocking the door to our intuition and the elevated realms of our existence. Yogis, in particular, regard the number 108 as a profound and symbolic key. Leonardo Fibonacci, a mathematician born circa A.D. 1170, proposed that the number 108 possesses a unique capacity to symbolize the entirety of existence.
Termed “nature’s secret code” and “nature’s universal rule,” 108 is believed to govern the dimensions of various structures, ranging from the Great Pyramid at Giza to the distinctive spiral shape of the Nautilus seashell. There are also 108 pressure points according to Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine. And so it is, that because My Womb is a spiritual exploration and my first poetry collection to be published, I decided it had to contain 108 malas of poetry.
Embark on a journey with the heroine of My Womb through moments of sadness, death and deathlessness, love and freedom. I welcome your thoughts and reflections as you walk through these poems. Feel free to share them with me.
